Packet Pickup this year has moved to Aspen Athletics located at 4100 Merle Hay Rd #6 in Des Moines. Packets will be available from 10 AM to 8 PM on May 12th. We recommend picking up your packets on Friday to make things run smoother on Saturday. During registration you had the option of joining a packet pickup group. If you selected that option, your packets will be boxed up separately so please let the volunteer know if you’re in a group.
Anyone that has spent more than 12 months in Iowa knows the weather is subject to change on a whim. The course is primarily around a wide open field with little wind blocks. Please dress accordingly and keep an eye on the weather. In the past 5 years we’ve had anywhere from 45 to 75 degree temperatures!
PLEASE NOTE: George Flagg Parkway will be closed between SW 30th and Park Ave. What this means is you will not be able to get to the race from Park Ave and will need to use either the SW 30th gate to Water Works or enter from Fleur Dr.
The gates will open at 7 AM and will close at 8:30 to clear the course. Please make sure you are there in plenty of time. Signs will be posted directing you where to go.
Stacy will be leading everyone with pre-race Zumba again this year! This was a blast last year and we’re excited to have her there again.
The Kids Fun Run will begin at 8:30 AM in front of the shelter house. We plan on around 50 kids signing up this year so please make sure you’re listening for any announcements.
We’ll again be releasing doves in honor of any brain tumor survivors and in memory of those that have finished their battle. The dove release will be at 8:45 in front of the shelter house, or as soon as the kids fun run is finished.
After the dove release, we’ll head to the start line. The race is scheduled to begin at 9 AM. A couple of things regarding the start area:
- The 2K walk, 5K walk/run, and 10.1K run all start from the same position at the same gun. Please find an appropriate starting position at the starting area. We strongly request that walkers and strollers to stay towards the back of the pack to allow individuals running for a time to get a good start.
- We also request that all walkers to stay on the right side of the path to allow runners to pass on the left. The 10.1K course involves running around the first loop a second time which will likely involve runners having to pass walkers. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated!
- 10.1K runners will be continuing through the finish arch and past the shelter house. For this reason we ask that you avoid standing on the pavement. There will be lane marked for those running through and staff in the area.
- Maps of the courses can be found at http://www.
Immediately following the race, please stick around for some complimentary sandwiches, beverages and yard games! There’s plenty for everyone!
Awards will be given out at 10:45 AM near the shelter house. We have awards for the top overall male and female plus age group awards for both the 5K and 10.1K.
