We currently find ourselves in a unique and unprecedented situation. When we launched Race for Hope DSM 8 years ago, dealing with a pandemic wasn’t even close to being on the list of concerns. Between a mountain lion on the loose last year and a pandemic now, we’ve had our fair share of unanticipated circumstances!
While many events were cancelling early, we held out hope the situation would improve. It’s now clear that even if the pandemic peaks in the next couple of weeks, it would be irresponsible of us to host a large gathering in early May. As much as we would love to see everyone, we feel it’s in everyone’s best interest to avoid getting together at this time. With that said, we have made the decision to transition the 2020 Race for Hope DSM to a 100% virtual race.
What does this mean to you? Basically you get all the benefits of attending this years race without the risk of getting sick. Shirts and finisher medals will be mailed to the home address you registered with, along with any fundraising prizes you’ve earned. Additionally anyone who registers this year will be eligible for 10% off a regular priced entry for next year’s race. A promo code will be emailed out when registration launches.
We have partnered with True Timing to host the virtual race. Simply download the Strava app, run either of the USATF certified courses described here or an identical length course of your own, and record your run. Then visit the virtual race by clicking here to edit your time and submit the link to your results. Age group awards will be mailed to winners who link their results to Strava!
While race day is a ton of fun, the primary purpose of Race for Hope DSM is to raise funds for brain tumor research. We hope that you are able to continue to register, advocate awareness,and raise funds for Dragon Master Foundation, National Brain Tumor Society, and Children’s Cancer Connection. The race is 100% volunteer driven and every dollar raised is one dollar closer to a cure! We’ve added an option to show your support for the fighters, admire the survivors, and honor those taken from us. For $50 your loved one’s name will be listed among the honorees on the back of this year’s shirt. Race for Hope DSM is a grassroots event and as such we don’t have any large corporate sponsors covering our overhead. Expenses often come due early in the year and are already paid. Because of this, refunds will not be available for this year’s race. Since the race is now virtual and you will be receiving all the benefits associated with the registration fee we hope you agree our obligations for this year’s event are fulfilled.
